Watch those Blind Curves and Ditch the Dark Clothing at Night

Many of our 55 miles of roads wind through our Valley like snakes, creating multiple blind curves.   This requires all of us to become extra alert behind the wheel - and to maintain a keen sensitivity to potential dangers.

A recent trip, just down Sudden Valley Dr. in Gate 3 proved the necessity for each and every driver in the Valley to drive defensively and with extra care.  Around one blind curve early one afternoon, four school children who had been dropped off the bus were walking home.   As children and adults will normally do, in order to conduct conversation, all were walking abreast around just such a curve, leaving two of them walking in the traffic lane.     This exposed them to danger that none were aware of because they were simply enjoying the walk and chat on the way home.  We need to be aware of this possibility, and children should also be cautioned that it would be wiser to walk behind one another.

Later that evening, while driving up and down on the same road, there were folks out walking, sometimes with their dogs, wearing dark clothing, nothing reflective on the clothing anywhere – not even a flashlight in hand.  One man had both his dogs in the traffic lane, and the dogs were even in danger.  These are accidents just waiting to happen, and none of us wants to hit someone because they weren’t visible until too late.  It’s worse on rainy nights because it’s nearly impossible to see someone if it is pouring.

Common sense must prevail!  There are a lot more families living in our Valley now, so it is imperative that each and every one of us uses extra caution when driving on these winding roads.
