The project to install cluster boxes in Gates 1, 3, 9, and 13 is on target for completion this year. Sudden Valley’s Maintenance Manager, Bruce Bishop, has been assigned to work with the Mailbox Task Force on this project; his expertise is welcome and needed. The Task Force is continuing to further define the scope of the project, including finalizing specifications, locations, permit application, cost containment areas and risk factors.

Preliminary costs will be presented to the Finance Committee at their March meeting, to inform them of key decision points and estimated project costs. The Task Force is actively working to control costs and will ensure that we make the most cost efficient decisions. This project was originally approved in 2004 to be completed no later than 2007. The Mailbox Task Force is being challenged to complete this project within the original 2004 projected costs. The addition of package boxes, as defined in the Memorandum of Understanding with the USPS, increased the scope of the project and therefore the costs.

The Task Force will present a preliminary map of address assignments to cluster box locations at the March Board meeting. Before address assignments can be finalized, two actions items must be completed and we are pursuing these concurrently. The Task Force has created a proposed assignment of addresses and has submitted it to the USPS for their approval. Simultaneously, we are working with staff to prepare application for land disturbance permit for all of the cluster box sites. Whatcom County must approve the sites before the address assignments can be completed. Once permit applications are submitted to the County, there can be no changes.

A brief notification will be sent out to residents in the affected Gates with the March dues letter. It is a heads up on how the USPS will handle the “Change of Address” process. A second notification will be sent when County and USPS approvals have been completed and installation dates are known.

Look for status reports from the MTF in the Views monthly or on the SV website until this project is completed

If you have already completed the application for this event, and want to utilize the chips on your property, just inform the DNR chipping crew when they arrive. If you were going to dispose of them, the DNR crew will chip the debris directly into the SV vehicle and dispose of it for you.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to rid yourself of downed debris, or request authorization from the ACC to do more robust yard work. We will close all further applications when the week is fully scheduled.

You have found your Prince Charming, now you need to find that perfect place to share your vows.

If an outdoor wedding is in your plans, picture PM Beach, surrounded by it’s majestic trees, the sun’s rays dancing on the waters of Lake Whatcom, your guests watching as you exchange your vows under an arbor of intertwining flowers. To see more pictures click

If an indoor wedding is more to your liking then the simplicity of the Dance Barn with its high rustic ceilings, white twinkling fairy lights hung from the wooden beams, swags of flowers and lace creating a magical wonderland for your special day. After the ceremony, pull back the chairs and strike up the band, enter into the next chapter of your life with dancing and wine, as your friends watch on from the tables surrounding the dance floor as you and the groom dance your first dance as husband and wife.

If a wedding is not in your future, Sudden Valley, with it beautiful surroundings, is still the perfect place for any special event, be it graduation, birthdays or just a reunion of friends and family.

Fecal coliform is the name for a group of bacteria found in waste from humans and animals. When this indicator bacteria is found in water samples, there may be disease-causing pathogens present as well. Information courtesy of the City of Bellingham.

Under the renewed Firewise certification yearly requirements Sudden Valley must hold a community wide event to promote fire safety. In the past, the Area Z burn qualified as our yearly event.

This year, from May 24th through May 28, there will be a chipper available for yard debris. See ACC forms below to request tree trimming and removal.

DNR employees will drive through each gate, on roads specified, and will stop at homes to chip curbside items. ACC has identified the following as items able to be removed without prior approval: fallen, dead trees or limbs and minimal shrub trimmings.

If you would like to sign up for this event, there is a form to complete below. The crew will chip your debris, leaving the wood chippings at your site for use in your landscaping or for your disposal. No leaves, wet grass will be allowed. Residents who sign up will be informed of the specific day or days of the week the chipper will not make unscheduled stops. You must fill out the form to be put on the schedule.
