Golf Cart Parade Re-Cap

The 1st Annual Sudden Valley Christmas Golf Cart Parade took to the course on Saturday, December 9th.  Cart drivers were treated to a beautiful scene of sparkling frost & sunshine along the way.  There were a total of 19 beautifully & creatively decorated carts, each with their own unique theme; a fantastic turnout for the first parade!  Participants along the path were able to take in the sights, sounds, & even a little candy thrown their way!  A big thank you to the organizing committee of Karen Hardesty, Mary Jo Case, Rich Fonda, & Robyn Deter for coordinating the event.  Also, a big thank you to Brian Kruhlak for allowing non-golfers to rent carts, so that they had the opportunity to participate as well.  With all the positive comments & feedback that have been received, you can be assured that another parade will be coming your way again, so start planning your cart decorations now!  The top three carts for this year’s events were:

1st: Sommer Cronck-RE/MAX Whatcom County, Inc.-Elsa & Olaf’s Winter Wonderland

2nd: Trevor & Mary Quinn-Mr. Grinch & Mrs. Clause

3rd: Jim & Betty Lundin-Holiday Spirit

Thank you all for your support and participation of this neighbor event!  What a fantastic community we live in!  See you next time!

Breakfast with Santa 2017

We started thinking about Christmas and Breakfast with Santa in November. What could we do to make sure this Christmas season began with a bang, and kicked off those great Christmas memories for the kids of Sudden Valley.?This year’s planning had begun.

Our initial kick-off meeting was in November with a group of people that were ready to get to work and become elves for this event.

After some initial planning, we were set with crafts, pictures with Santa and breakfast.  Of course, we also wanted to make sure that all the children that could not make our event would also have a Merry Christmas, so Toy’s for Tots was launched with a collection bin being set up in the administration office lobby, where unwrapped gifts began coming in, and I mean coming in!

The event kicked off on a cold Saturday morning with the golf course covered in an icy frost, which was magical. The glistening white grass looked like a fresh snowfall. It was breathtaking looking at this backdrop, that seemed to be a scene drawn up right out of the North Pole.   Perfect indeed for the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus, who of course was right on time as the children started to arrive at El Agave for this day’s magical activities.

Children and families were greeted by Santa’s elves, breakfast was hot and steaming. Crafts were being created by the hands of the childre .The library was handing out library cards, and children with those new library cards in hand were looking at all the festive holiday books. Finding their favorites, they checked them out that day so they could read them that night and experience another joy of Christmas…the stories and glories of Christmas.

My heart was truly humbled as I thank all of our elves that helped keep tables stocked with crafty goodies while making sure people were greeted and helped to know where to go along the way….not to mention the bussing of tables, making sure they were ready for the next family feast to be had.

Families of old and families of new in our community gathered in the great hall of El Agave, enjoying breakfast together while enjoying all the holiday festivities to kick off this Christmas season.

On this day, the Toys for Tots box was overflowing with the generous giving from our Sudden Valley community! The Toys for Tots cash donation jar was filling up, with total cash donation exceeding well over $200, while the toy box (with over 110 toys donated to date) certainly ensures there will be many more smiles on Christmas morning.

One thing was undeniable on this Breakfast with Santa morning. There was so much joy in that room. The Christmas spirit was alive and well.  Smiles and laughing children were heartwarming, and I will never be able to say thank you enough to those who worked so very hard to make this happen.

So as we close this chapter of Sudden Valley Breakfast with Santa 2017, from my family to yours, we do wish you a Merry Christmas!
