SUMMARY:Flu Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Even healthy people need a flu vaccine.\nInfluenza (flu) is a contagious disease which can lead to serious illness\,\nincluding pneumonia. Even healthy people can get sick enough to miss work\nor school for a significant amount of time or even be hospitalized. An annual\nflu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older. Pregnant\nwomen\, young children\, older people\, and people with certain chronic medical\nconditions like asthma\, diabetes and heart disease are at increased risk of\nserious flu-related complications\, so getting a yearly flu vaccine is especially\nimportant for them. \nIs the flu vaccine safe?\nYes. The flu vaccine is safe. Hundreds of millions of Americans have safely\nreceived flu vaccines over the past 50 years\, and there has been extensive\nresearch supporting the safety of seasonal flu vaccines. Each year\, CDC works\nclosely with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other partners to\nensure the highest safety standards for flu vaccines. \nThe most common side effects of flu vaccines are mild.\nThe flu vaccine cannot cause flu illness; however\, it can cause mild side effects\nthat may be mistaken for flu. Common side effects from the flu shot include\nsoreness\, redness\, and/or swelling from the shot\, headache\, fever\, muscle aches\,\nand nausea. These side effects are NOT the flu. If experienced at all\, these effects\nare usually mild and last only 1-2 days. \nEven if I get sick\, won’t I recover quickly?\nNot necessarily. Influenza can be serious and anyone can become sick with\nflu and experience serious complications\, including active and healthy kids\,\nteens and adults. Even if you bounce back quickly\, however\, others around you\nmight not be so lucky. You could spread your illness to someone who is more\nvulnerable to flu. Some people can be infected with the flu virus\, but have no\nsymptoms. During this time\, you can still spread the virus to others. Don’t be\nthe one spreading flu to those you care about. \nCan’t I wait and get vaccinated when/if flu hits my community?\nIt is best to get vaccinated before flu begins to spread. It takes about two weeks\nafter vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection\nagainst the flu\, so the sooner you get vaccinated\, the more likely it is that you will\nbe protected once flu begins to circulate in your community. \nFlu vaccines can’t give you the flu.\nEven if you got a flu vaccine\, there are reasons why you might still get flu or a\nflu-like illness.\n•• You may have been exposed to a non-flu virus. The flu vaccine can only\nprevent illnesses caused by flu viruses. It cannot protect against other\nviruses that may cause symptoms similar to flu\, like the common cold.\n•• You might have been exposed to flu after you got vaccinated\, but before\nthe vaccine took effect. It takes about two weeks after you receive the\nvaccine for your body to build protection against the flu.\n•• You may have been exposed to an influenza virus that was very different\nfrom the viruses included in that year’s vaccine. The flu vaccine protects\nagainst the influenza viruses that research indicates will cause the\nmost disease during the upcoming season\, but there can be other flu\nviruses circulating.\n•• Unfortunately\, however\, some people who get a flu vaccine may still get\nsick. How well the flu vaccine works (or its ability to prevent flu) can range\nfrom season to season and also can vary depending on who is being\nvaccinated. However\, if you do get sick\, flu vaccination might make your\nillness milder than it would have been otherwise. \nDon’t avoid getting a flu vaccine because you don’t like shots.\nThe minor pain of a flu shot is nothing compared to the suffering that can be\ncaused by the flu. A flu vaccine reduces your risk of illness\, hospitalization\, and\ncan prevent you from spreading the virus to your loved ones. So\, whatever little\ndiscomfort you feel from the minor side effects of the flu shot is worthwhile to\navoid the flu. \nYou need to get a flu vaccine every year.\nThere are two reasons for getting a flu vaccine every year:\na) Flu viruses are constantly changing and so flu vaccines may be updated from\none season to the next. You need the current season’s vaccine for the\nbest protection.\nb) A person’s immune protection from the vaccine declines over time. Annual\nvaccination is needed for the best protection.

DESCRIPTION:Community Invited to Meet and Greet – Three Final Finalists for SVCA General Manager \nThe top three GM candidates will visit Sudden Valley next week for formal interviews and Members are invited to meet them.  Each candidate will visit separately beginning Tuesday December 4th\, Wednesday December 5th and the last one on Thursday December 6th.   Each of the finalists being interviewed for the position of General Manager will meet with Members on the day they are here for their interview between 4:00 and 5:00 in the Dance Barn.  To meet all three candidates you must attend all three days.   Coffee and Snacks will be served.
