Tune into BECoN Radio – 1610 AM

The BECoN radio (1610kHz AM) has been advertised recently. Here is some information for anyone who is not familiar with it:

The radio is owned by the Sudden Valley Amateur Radio Club and licensed to South Whatcom Fire Authority. It can be heard throughout Sudden Valley on an ordinary portable radio (AM band) and on car radios. It will be activated in times of distress such as storms, fire, landslide, or earthquake, for instance during the recent snowstorms information on closed roads and dangerous conditions was updated at least twice a day.

The equipment was bought by the club members and is maintained by them but it is old and would be very expensive to replace. Consequently, to avoid unnecessary wear, it will not be on the air unless needed.
