2018 SGM

At the Thursday, February 22nd, Board of Directors meeting, members of the Sudden Valley Strong community group presented the Board President with a petition calling for a Special General Meeting (SGM) of the membership.

The Sudden Valley Strong group recommends a 5 year special assessment of no more than $11/month per developed lot and no more than $8/month per undeveloped lot to pay for the two pools, the Gym and Recreation Center, parks and trails. The measure also would make these amenities available to all SVCA owners at no additional cost.

Per SVCA Bylaws Article ll Section 2, a petition supported by 10% of the membership compels the Association to call an SGM. The signatures with the submitted petition were vetted on Friday February 23rd. Of the 382 submitted signatures, 13 were disqualified leaving 369 valid signatures which is 55 greater than the required 314 minimum number. A preliminary date of April 21st was discussed as the tentative election date.

Additional information will be provided through the Views, SVCA Web Site, and direct mailing. A special meeting of the Board has been scheduled for Thursday March 1st where members can attend or watch on live streaming.

The following is the Inclement Weather Plan for Sudden Valley Community Association for 02/23 to 02/26

Current Situation

Current National Weather Service forecast shows snow possible through the weekend with possible accumulations from 1 to 5 inches based on forecast models.

Operations Plan During Forecasted Snow

Crews will respond to forecasted weather and plow/deice SV main roads for the duration of the snow event. Crews will not plow/sand or deice past 7 PM to ensure crew safety, and to  ensure crew availability for further response in the morning, if required.

Bellingham School District will receive an updated road report no later than 3 AM 02/23/18 to allow planning for Friday school busing pickups.

Road Conditions (currently)

Currently the roads are bare, with some icy spots. Those areas are being mitigated. The Maintenance staff will be applying liquid deicer to all Sudden Valley main roads. Sudden Valley Security will monitor the road conditions through the event and report any safety/hazard conditions.

Crew Availability

All maintenance/turf care crews are available for call in if needed.

Operations/Communication (external)

Emergency Information System (1610 AM) is non-operational. Pacific Security Dispatch has been notified to let residents who call in on road conditions to be referred to the Sudden Valley Community Association web site www.suddenvalley.com for updates.

Amplifying Information

All equipment for downed trees is operational and ready to deploy.

SVCA Fitness Facility to Stay Open in February

The Recreation Task Force has been working diligently to find the means and method to keep the Fitness Center open in the absence of the YMCA. The difference between a dream and a goal is deadline, and that deadline is upon us. The YMCA is vacating the facility this week!

SVCA wishes to fully support the Recreation Task Force, and to give their efforts the best chance to succeed we are going to keep the gym open during the month of February with limited hours and amenities.

The cost of Fitness Facility Usage for the month of February will be $40, which can be paid in the Administrative Office. You will be asked to complete a waiver of liability and be issued a pass key to access the facility. Silver Sneakers and Silver and Fit Participants will only be required to complete the waiver and show their medical or Silver and Fit card.

We are excited to be able to keep things moving during February, even if at a limited capacity. Hours of operation will be 9:00-6:00pm Monday through Friday, and 12:00-4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. Please contact Admin with any questions at 360-734-6430.
