Recreational Facility Update

We are sad to announce that the two outdoor seasonal pools, the Main Pool and Quiet Pool, will not open for the 2020 season due to COVID-19.

We are re-opening facilities according to Governor Inslee’s “Safe Start” phased approached plan. Whatcom County is within Phase 2 of the plan, which allows for a maximum of 5 persons to congregate outside of a household.

It was our hope to re-open the Pools at the start of Phase 3, however on July 28th WA State indefinitely suspended county’s progression into subsequent Phases. The outdoor seasonal pools are typically open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

On the same day WA State also reduced the maximum number of persons allowed to congregate outside of a household from 50 to 10.

We continue to evaluate the viability of re-opening of the Community Center. However, under new WA State released guidelines for their Safe Start Plan the maximum capacity of Fitness Centers in Phase 3 will be reduced to 25%, and all indoor recreational centers are prohibited from re-opening.

Under current requirements and for the health, safety, and welfare of our Community we will not re-open the Community Center with such limitations. We plan to re-open the gym when the health restrictions allow for more people to be served.

Our Parks, Trails, Marina, and Golf Course remain open to our Membership with social distancing and mask requirements in place. We encourage our Members to get outside and take advantage of this beautiful summertime weather we all look forward to every year.

We will continue to provide frequent updates. We thank our Membership for their understanding and willingness to protect one another by following WA State requirements.

Correction Regarding Swimming & Bite of Sudden Valley

The Bite of Sudden Valley event, taking place on August 10th, 2019, includes free swimming at MARINA PARK. There are swim floats located in Lake Whatcom at Marina Park, and there is no charge to swim at this location as well as AM and PM beaches. Swimming at the Main Pool and Quiet Pool is included in monthly dues for members, and requires an Access Card. Pool passes can be purchased for non-members; price dependent on user. For more information, contact Recreation Manager at recmgr@suddenvalley.com or visit the Recreation Department webpage at https://suddenvalley.com/recreation/.

2018 SGM

At the Thursday, February 22nd, Board of Directors meeting, members of the Sudden Valley Strong community group presented the Board President with a petition calling for a Special General Meeting (SGM) of the membership.

The Sudden Valley Strong group recommends a 5 year special assessment of no more than $11/month per developed lot and no more than $8/month per undeveloped lot to pay for the two pools, the Gym and Recreation Center, parks and trails. The measure also would make these amenities available to all SVCA owners at no additional cost.

Per SVCA Bylaws Article ll Section 2, a petition supported by 10% of the membership compels the Association to call an SGM. The signatures with the submitted petition were vetted on Friday February 23rd. Of the 382 submitted signatures, 13 were disqualified leaving 369 valid signatures which is 55 greater than the required 314 minimum number. A preliminary date of April 21st was discussed as the tentative election date.

Additional information will be provided through the Views, SVCA Web Site, and direct mailing. A special meeting of the Board has been scheduled for Thursday March 1st where members can attend or watch on live streaming.
