Sudden Valley Amenities

Sudden Valley is proud of its amenities and offers activities for all ages and abilities. There are 20 neighborhood parks, some with recreational equipment and lake access, and miles of hiking trails.

Sudden Valley also has an 18-hole golf course designed by renowned golf course architect Ted Robinson, which offers the golfer two distinct nines. The front nine plays along the shore of Lake Whatcom while the back nine is an adventure through tree-lined hills.


Welcome Center

The Welcome Center home to the Sudden Valley administration offices, including member services, accounting, and compliance. Residents may visit the Welcome Center to obtain copies of forms posted online, obtain an access card for the Community Center, pay dues, and more. If you have any specific questions you’d like answered in-person, please visit the Welcome Center.

Golf Course & Clubhouse

The Sudden Valley Golf Course was designed by renowned golf course architect Ted Robinson to be the centerpiece for the private community of Sudden Valley. The golf course has hosted many major Northwest tournaments, including a Washington State Open, the Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, a Master-40, a Washington State Senior Women’s Championship, and five Washington State Men’s Amateur Championships. The Clubhouse houses the Golf Pro Shop on the lower floor. El Agave 2 is located on the upper floor, and the 19th Hole Café, located downstairs, is also open early for your convenience.

Community Center & Pools

The Community Center, located inside Gate 2, is Sudden Valley’s recreation hub. It hosts a fitness center, a small reading area, multiple activity rooms for kids of all ages, and free WiFi. The Main Pool is adjacent to the Community Center, while the Quiet Pool is located behind the South Whatcom Library across the parking lot.

Dance Barn

The Dance Barn is located on the second floor of the Community Center. This space is reminiscent of an old grange hall, with an occupancy of up to 400 people. The Dance Barn is the perfect venue for dances, receptions, large banquets, meetings, or seminars. Alcohol is prohibited within the facility.

Fitness Center

The Fitness Center is located on the first floor of the Community Center. The gym features strength circuit equipment, free weights, cardio (ellipticals, treadmills), a stretching area, and more. The gym is connected to the men’s and women’s locker rooms, which include bathrooms, changing areas, showers and free day-use lockers; just bring your own lock.

Game Room

The Game Room, located on the first floor of the Community Center, is a fun and safe space for all ages. The space features video games, foosball, and a pool table.

Sunshine Room

The Sunshine Room, located on the first floor of the Community Center, is a large children’s play room featuring lots of toys and games. The Sunshine Room is recommended for ages seven and below, although children of all ages are welcome to enjoy it.

Main Pool

The Main Pool is adjacent to the Community Center and accessed through the men’s and women’s locker rooms. This is a general use pool staffed by lifeguards and has a maximum occupancy of 125 people. The number of persons allowed within the pool area is dependent on the number of lifeguards on duty. For more information, like swim schedules and fees, please visit the pool information page.

Quiet Pool

The Quiet Pool is located behind the South Whatcom Library and accessed through a side gate next to the parking lot. The pool operates as a limited use pool, and its maximum occupancy is 25 adults and 5 children. No lifeguards are present, so all users swim at their own risk. Sports & Recreation

Tennis & Pickleball Courts

The Sudden Valley Tennis Courts are located in Gate 1 at the Marina and one in Gate 2 near the Community Center. The Community Center tennis courts are also lined for pickleball. To access the Community Center tennis courts, users can check in at the Community Center front desk and trade their ID or Sudden Valley access card for a tennis court access card.

Basketball Courts

The Sudden Valley Basketball Courts are at the Sudden Valley Marina, adjacent to Marina Park. Please observe all posted rules to keep the courts clean and accessible.

Disc Golf

The Mossy Roc Disc Golf Course is a local, private disc golf course established in partnership with the Whatcom Disc Golf Club. It is open to all Sudden Valley residents and members of the Whatcom Disc Golf Club. Mossy Roc is a dog friendly disc golf course.


RV, Boat, & Kayak Storage

Area Z RV Storage Facility

The Area Z Storage Facility provides secured, paid storage spaces for Sudden Valley residents’ RVs and trailers. Due to high demand, there is a waitlist to gain access. To view the waitlist, please visit the Recreation page. To get on the waitlist, please contact the Community Center.

Marina

The Sudden Valley Marina contains both wet and dry boat docking options for Sudden Valley residents. There is also a public boat launch and other recreational facilities. Due to high demand, there is a waitlist for both wet and dry boat docking slips. To view the waitlist, please see the Marina page. To get on the waitlist, please contact the Community Center.

Kayak/Canoe Storage

Kayak and canoe storage is available for residents at six locations. Due to high demand, there is a waitlist. To view the waitlist, please see the Marina page. To get on the waitlist, please contact the Community Center.

The Sudden Valley Community Garden is located in Area Z. Sudden Valley residents are welcome to walk the exterior perimeter of the garden, but for access inside the garden, please email to arrange.

The Barn View Community Garden is located north of the Sudden Valley barns. Sudden Valley residents are welcome to walk the exterior perimeter of the garden, but for access inside the garden, please email to arrange.

Afternoon Beach (PM Beach)

Afternoon Beach sits along a quiet cove with views of the Sudden Valley Golf Course. It features a picnic pavilion available to rent, and seasonal restrooms. Afternoon Beach connected to Morning Beach via a long grassy field and Picnic Point trail, which leads up the ridge and around.

Directions: Located in Gate 2. Go down Marigold Dr and take a left at the fork in the road, continuing along Marigold Dr. Then take a left onto Morning Beach Dr, and the park is on the left.

Beaver Ridge Park

Beaver Ridge Park is a natural, wooded area with many trail systems throughout that connect to adjacent neighborhoods.

Directions: Located in Gate 9. Enter Gate 9 and take a right onto Polo Park Dr. Take a right onto Morning Glory Dr and the park will be on the left.

Cascade Park

Cascade Park is directly behind a set of mailboxes. The area is sloped, and has a grassy area and older swing set. This park is surrounded by homes.

Directions: Located in Gate 3. Enter Gate 3 and take a right onto Sudden Valley Dr. In about half a mile, the park will be on the corner of Cascade Ln.

Creekside Park

Creekside Park is a small wooded park accessible only by foot. The park has a creek, a ravine, and small open space.

Directions: Located in Gate 9. Enter Gate 9 and the entrance to the park is almost immediately to the right. The park can also be accessed from Creekside Ln.

Gate 5 Park

Gate 5 Park is a developed park with playground equipment, adjacent to a wooded area with a stream.

Directions: Located at the entrance to Gate 5 behind the mailbox clusters.

Harbor View Park

Harbor View Park is an undeveloped park with a trail, which has grown over. The trail leads down a steep hill.

Directions: Located in Gate 3. Enter Gate 3 and take a right onto Sudden Valley Dr. Follow Sudden Valley Dr for about a mile, and the park will be on the right. This park can also be accessed from Jasper Ridge Ln.

Hendrick Park

Hendrick Park is an undeveloped park that has an overgrown trail. The area is steeply sloped and leads uphill from Harbor View Dr.

Directions: Located in Gate 3. Enter Gate 3 and turn right onto Sudden Valley Dr then right on Harbor View Dr. Follow Sudden Valley Dr for about a mile, and the park will be on the left across from Winter Creek Pl. Hendrick Park can also be accessed from Sigma Cir.

Huckleberry Park

Huckleberry Park features a large playground structure and swings, and 3 off-street parking spaces.

Directions: Located in Gate 9. Enter Gate 9 and take a right onto Polo Park Dr. Continue along Polo Park Dr, take the left at the fork in the road, and the park will be located on the left.

Lake Louise Park

Lake Louise Park is located on the south side of the homes on Whispering Cedars Ct, Larkspur Ct, Partridge Cir, and the north side of Nighthawk Cir. The park is a small grassy area along the trail and facing out over the lake. This park is only accessible by foot; there is no parking along Larkspur Ct.

Directions: Located in Gate 2. Enter Gate 2 and park at the Welcome Center. Lake Louise Park can be accessed via walking Lake Louise Trail, which begins behind the black fence surrounding the Native Plant Demonstration Garden.

Lake Trail Park

Lake Trail Park is steeply sloped and has significantly wet areas and a stream. The Park is surrounded by homes and has no off-street parking spaces.

Directions: Located in Gate 1. Enter Gate 1 and continue along Windward Dr. Continue for about half a mile and the park will be to the right after passing North Point Dr. The park can also be accessed off North Point Dr and Topside Ct.

Little Strawberry Park

Little Strawberry Park is mostly comprised of a gulley. There is an extensive trail system throughout that connects to neighboring green spaces and a small grassy area surrounded by neighboring houses off Fawn Ct.

Directions: Located in Gate 3. Enter Gate 3 and take a right onto Sudden Valley Dr. In about half a mile, take a right onto Fawn Ct. The park is located between 9 and 13 Fawn Ct. The top of the trail starts off Lost Fork Ln.

Lost Fork Park

Lost Fork Park is a narrow strip of neighborhood park with stone benches and a circular field

Directions: Located in Gate 9 off of Lost Fork Ln.

Maple Leaf Park

Maple Leaf Park has a large play structure with child and infant swing sets, stone benches under natural shade, and large open fields divided by ditches.

Directions: Located in Gate 1 near 148 Harbor View Dr.

Marina Park

Marina Park is a large park with playground equipment, a picnic shelter, restrooms, and beach access. There is also a designated off-leash area for dogs as well as tennis courts, a basketball court, a volleyball court, and a baseball diamond.

Directions: Located in Gate 1. Enter Gate 1 and follow Windward Dr. Take a right onto Marina Dr which will lead directly to Marina Park.

Morning Beach (AM Beach)

Morning Beach is a sandy stretch of beach with picnic tables and seasonal restrooms. In the summer months, there is a roped-off swim area. Morning Beach is connected to Afternoon Beach via the long grassy field or Picnic Point trail, which leads up the ridge and around to the other beach. Morning Beach gets morning sun (hence its name) and is typically shady by early afternoon.

Directions: Located in Gate 2. Go down Marigold Dr and take a left at the fork in the road, continuing along Marigold Dr. Then, take a left onto Morning Beach Dr, and the park is located at the very end of the street.

North Point Park

North Point Park is located between Lake Whatcom and the backside of homes on Clear Lake Ct, Far Summit Pl, and Sanwick Point Ct. The park has 2 SVCA kayak racks and the play area is affected by the water level in the lake.

Directions: Located in Gate 1. Enter Gate 1 and continue along Windward Dr. Take a right onto North Point Dr, then take a right onto Far Summit Pl. The park is located between 18 and 20 Far Summit Pl.

North Trail Park

North Trail Park is densely wooded, with no pedestrian access into the area.

Directions: Located at the very top of Gate 3. Enter Gate 3 and take a right onto Sudden Valley Dr. Continue along for about a mile and a half and take a right onto Twinflower Cir. The Park is at the end of the street, to the left, at the intersection with North Summit Dr.

Recreation Corridor Park

The Recreation Corridor Park is adjacent to the Community Center and spans along Austin Creek. It features playground equipment, a gazebo, a fenced off-leash dog area for small dogs, tennis and pickleball courts, a walking trail that connects to the Golf parking lot and Clubhouse, and a multi-use sports field.

Directions: Located in Gate 2 outside of the Community Center at 8 Barn View Ct.

Sofield Park

Sofield Park has a beach, fire pit, picnic tables, a large grassy area, and off-street parking. The park also has two SVCA kayak racks.

Directions: Located in Gate 1. Enter Gate 1 and follow Windward Dr. Take a right onto Marina Dr, then a left onto Longshore Ln. The park is located to the right on the corner of Longshore Ln and Inlet Cir, right after Bowline Ct.

Treehouse Park

Treehouse Park has a rustic, nonfunctional treehouse, a vintage slide attached to a cement structure, a grassy field, and natural terrain.

Directions: Located in Gate 3. Enter Gate 3 and turn right on Sudden Valley Dr. Turn left on Ricky Ridge Dr and the park will be on the right.
