Sudden Valley Firewise Program – 2022

Sudden Valley Community Association will be hosting a Firewise program starting on July 11th, 2022.

The purpose of a Firewise program is to promote awareness to the dangers of fires from vegetation surrounding community homes and other properties. One hazard that is prevalent within Sudden Valley are the tree limbs that have fallen naturally or during windstorms. These limbs are referred to in a Firewise program as “ground fuels”. Because large limbs are difficult to remove, Sudden Valley Community Association assists homeowners by providing a free service whereby residents of the Association can dispose of the tree limbs that have broken from trees on or surrounding their property. This Firewise service is provided by SVCA’s Maintenance Department during a published scheduled time frame.

Residents can take advantage of this program by having their tree branches placed in an
accessible pile next to the roadway prior to the scheduled pickup time for their area. Piles of
branches placed by the roadside after the scheduled pickup time will not be picked up and
will be the property owners’ responsibility.

Scope of Service:

  • Service is limited to residents; no commercial support is available.
  • Branches must be piled next to the road and easily accessible to the Firewise crew. Do not block ditches with branches.
  • Pickup is limited to tree branches that have naturally broken from a tree. Services do not include limbs that are “cut” from an established tree.
  • The maximum diameter of the limb is six (6) inches.
  • There is no limit to the length of the limb.
  • The height of a pile of limbs should be no more than five (5) feet tall.
  • Vegetation such as brush, lawn waste, tree roots, bagged leafs, etc. will not be picked up as these items will jam/plug equipment. If these items are left alongside the roadway, they will be the property owners’ responsibility to dispose of.
  • Questions pertaining to the Sudden Valley Community Association’s Firewise program can be directed to the Maintenance Superintendent by calling (360) 778-2223.

Recycle Disposal: Limbs are fed into a large wood chipping machine and the chips transported to
a Sudden Valley Association wood chip composting site. The chips will be made available free to
residents to self-load on a first come basis.

Fireworks Are Prohibited in Sudden Valley

Dear Sudden Valley Residents,

As the 4th of July holiday approaches, we’d like to remind residents that the use of fireworks anywhere in Sudden Valley is strictly prohibited. Fireworks are dangerous both for the user and the surrounding homes and forests. Sudden Valley is a place for all to enjoy tranquility and beauty, and the use of fireworks significantly negatively affects many members and the pet population in Sudden Valley.

The Association maintains a zero-tolerance regarding the use of fireworks. Therefore, Security will enforce this action and cite offenders under SVCA Rules & Regulation policy 1.4.

We appreciate members and guests who adhere to Sudden Valley rules and regulations, and we thank you. We hope you can celebrate with a barbecue, a picnic, a swim or even a paddle in the lake. Enjoy the holiday and Stay Safe.

Office Closed to In-Person Service Until 6-27-22

Office Closure

The Sudden Valley Administration Offices are closing immediately for an extended period due to continued multiple COVID infections among staff. For public safety, and in accordance with Whatcom County Health guidelines, the main office will be closed until at least June 27th.

Staff will still be available to answer phone calls and emails remotely. The main phone number for Administration is 360-734-6430 and emails to office@suddenvalley.com can be routed to the proper personnel.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please reach out to us if you need to connect with staff and we will do the best we can to assist you.

We feel that we can operate safely and continue to protect our families, and our community while serving both. We know this is a difficult time for everyone, and we are committed to doing what we can to help. Please consider wearing a mask when you visit the office.

The Association is experiencing an extreme escalation in the spread of COVID-19 among staff. We are working closely with the Whatcom County Health Department for guidance. The individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 are in isolation, and the SVCA continues to adhere to guidance from the Washington State Department of Health. This includes appropriate mask-wearing, hand-sanitation, and physical distancing, where possible.

If you have visited any of the Clubhouse offices in the last week and are experiencing cold like symptoms, please consider getting tested.

Due to these circumstances beyond our control, we are working short-staffed.

SUDDEN VALLEY CLEAN GREEN JUNE 11, 2022

Community Announcements

The purpose of Sudden Valley’s Clean Green program is to provide Sudden Valley residents with a local area to dispose of tree limbs. The Clean Green site is located at the Sudden Valley Gate 5 Overflow Parking Area, across from Gate 5 on Lake Louise Road. Starting Saturday, June 11, 2022 this year’s hours are 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Items for Disposal:

  • Limbs (no larger than 6 inches in diameter)

Items that CANNOT be accepted include:

  • soil
  • weeds
  • sod
  • grass clippings
  • rocks
  • gravel
  • construction materials
  • chemicals and paints
  • batteries
  • electronics
  • household trash, plastic, glass, furniture, etc.

Main Pool Closed 6/1

Recreation

The Main Pool at the Community Center will be closed for maintenance on Wednesday and Thursday (June 1st and 2nd). The Quiet Pool at the Adult Center (Library) will remain open with regular hours.

The Quiet Pool will be open at Noon on 6/1 closed on 6/1, but open regular hours 6/2.
